SAİNT JOHN BABTİST CHURCH

This Protestant Church is located in Buca Quarter, Street 81, No 23. The Church building was put into service as Protestant Anglican Church in 1834.  It was built as a small village church in the form of ‘’chapel’ (şafel) in 1865. The chuch building was restored with the mandate of Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz Khan .

This small building has a characteristic construction. There is a choir and altar at an edge of decussate plan, entrance and cloak room at the other edge; organ place and priest room at other edges and there is a central heating plant under this room as well inner dome of central hall based on interesting geometry displays wooden construction. Artistic colourful stained glasses on neogothic windows of the church was transferred to Protestant St. John Evangelist chapel in 1961 at Alsancak.

It provided the worship need of Turk Protestant community in 1961. The church transferred its outbuilding to municipality after this date. Buca Municipality used church building as cultural centre until 2001.

The building returned to fundamental duty for the worship need of Turk Protestant community by permission of official authority thanks to the protocol which was made between Buca Municipality in 2012.
