Before the great fire of 1922, This Greek Orthodox Church is located in a part which bears the name Mahmudiye (Yaladika) of Frenk Street. Aya Fotini was built at seaside in 1658. However, it was restored in 1690 after
destruction due to the 1688 earthquake. It became Metropolitan with advancing years and it became the symbol of  Greek people where live in İzmir. The belfry which is 33-meter height was constructed in relation of Jesus Christ’s death age for church which stays inside due to sea filling in time. Moreover, This belfry is a pride of Greek people living in İzmir because of the fact that it is the tallest building in İzmir and a large clock was added to the belfry in 1892.
